UAB Hospital

UAB Hospital is a major center for clinical and basic science research. UAB received $413.7 million in NIH funding in fiscal year 2023—placing it in the top 1% of all NIH-funded institutions and among the top 15 public universities for NIH funding across its six health-related schools. The Heersink School of Medicine alone received nearly $274 million in NIH research funding in 2023, ranking 27th overall and 12th among public universities in NIH support. U.S. News & World Report 2024 ranked 16 of UAB’s graduate programs among the nation’s top 25 for research funding. UAB has also been recognized as the #1 young university in the United States and 10th globally in Times Higher Education’s World University “Young University Rankings” for 2024‑2025.
